Fiolek Grabs Overall Victory in AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross at Lakewood E-mail
Monday, 30 June 2008

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (June 29, 2008) – American Honda/Red Bull/Alpinestars rider Ashley Fiolek remained perfect in claiming her third overall win of the season on Saturday evening at round three of the AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship Presented by Kawasaki. After winning the first moto, Fiolek finished third in moto two to take the overall victory in the first-ever WMA night race.

After grabbing the Meterman Holeshot Award in moto one, Fiolek held off the challenges of Yamaha, Jayco, Etnies, FMF, Answer Racing’s Tarah Gieger, who capitalized on a great start to boast her best moto performance of the season.

In the final moto, young upstart Malcolm Smith Suzuki/Zip Ty Racing''s Sherri Cruse notched her first Meterman Holeshot Award and carried the early-race momentum into a convincing first career moto win. American Honda/Honda of Houston/Fox Racing/Bad Boy Energy Drink’s Jessica Patterson battled with Fiolek and Gieger to earn second while Fiolek nabbed third from Gieger just before the checkered flag.

“I’m happy to take the overall tonight,” explained Fiolek. “The first moto was a lot of fun with Tarah (Gieger) right behind me. She was pushing me the entire race. In the last moto, I didn’t get as good a start as I’d like so I tried to just ride smart and smooth. I still can’t believe how this season is going.”

With her second moto performance, Cruse achieved her best career finish in second overall while Patterson put together a solid weekend for third overall..

The AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship Presented by Kawasaki returns to action on July 26-27 in Washougal, Washington. The series is also sponsored by: Honda Rider’s Club of America, Dunlop Tires, Alpinestars, The Original Pink Box, Thor MX Gear, Drill Tech Drilling and Shoring, Team Powermadd, Polisport, Bad Boy Turbo Shot and ZLT Racing.
