Reigning Monster Energy® Supercross Champion Chad Reed on Hand for Press Conference
AURORA, Ill. (August 18, 2008) – Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc., announced today that Utah Governor Jim Huntsman and the Utah Sports Commission will host a press conference Friday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m. to welcome back Monster Energy® Supercross, an FIM World Championship, to Salt Lake City’s Rice-Eccles Stadium for the first time since 2004. The newly added Monster Energy® Supercross tour stop will take place April 25 featuring the world’s top supercross racers. Defending Monster Energy® Supercross champion Chad Reed will be on hand for interviews and photo opportunities as well.
”It’s terrific news that one of the premier motorsports events in the world is coming back to Utah that will not only showcase our state to a nationally televised audience, but will also provide an estimated $9 million in economic impact to Utah’s economy as well,” said Governor Huntsman.
Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission added, “Having Monster Energy® Supercross back at Rice-Eccles Stadium is another major accomplishment for us as we continue to establish Utah as one of the top action and extreme sport destinations in the world.”
The first supercross race held at Rice-Eccles Stadium took place in 2001 where 42,135 packed the home of the 2002 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies to watch Ricky Carmichael race to victory.
Chad Reed, who will be on hand for the press conference in Salt Lake City, won the main event in his first full season in the AMA Supercross class in 2003. Reed had a solid finish to the 2003 season, winning the last six races (including Salt Lake City) over five-time AMA Supercross class champion Ricky Carmichael.
James Stewart, who is the 2007 AMA Supercross class champion, won the AMA Supercross Lites class race in Salt Lake City in consecutive years (2002 & 2003). Stewart, who did not race last year in the AMA Supercross class due to knee injury, aims to become the only rider to win the event in each division.
Tickets are available at www.SupercrossOnline.com, www.utahtickets.com, by phone at 801-581-UTIX and the Rice-Eccles Box Office. Goldcircle seats are $40; Mid-Level seats are $20 for adults and $10 for kids; Treadhead seats are $10. All seats are $2 extra on the day of the event.
