AMA Arenacross Series Continues this Weekend in Council Bluffs

AURORA, Ill. (March 9, 2010) – Another pair of races down and another victory each for Babbitt’s Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasaki riders Tyler Bowers and Josh Demuth, the AMA Arenacross Series most victorious riders in 2010. The series’ last round from Reno produced a pair of dominating performances from each rider, with Demuth taking the win on night one and Bowers on night two. With three rounds remaining, including this weekend’s two nights of action from Council Bluffs’, Iowa’s Mid America Center, time is running out for Demuth to close in on his teammate for the premier AMA Arenacross class crown.
Despite his impressive performance last Friday night, Demuth’s advantage over Bowers was minimized by virtue of his teammate’s runner-up finish, resulting in just a three point exchange atop the standings. Still, it was what Demuth needed to do in order to stay in the thick of the championship battle and it continued his run as the series’ most consistent rider over the past month. However, on Saturday night, Bowers returned the favor, winning his series-leading eighth race of the season, swapping positions with Demuth, who finished second, and regaining the three points he lost the night before.
Now, the duo enters this weekend’s action the way they did just one week ago, separated by 17 points. With five races remaining over the next three rounds, the AMA Arenacross Series is sure to live up to expectations. The 2010 season has turned into a dogfight between the two most dominant riders in the series. The pair’s advantage over the rest of the field is an astonishing 26 points, more than one race. Between Bowers’ eight victories and Demuth’s four, they have won 12 of the 14 races this season with a combined 21 podium finishes out of 28.
With just a handful of races to go, neither Bowers nor Demuth can afford to falter down the stretch as each rider has shown they are fully capable of taking advantage of available opportunities. As a result, the rest of the season could become a matter of minimizing mistakes as several riders seek to stand atop the podium.
Reno was a memorable weekend for AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship leader A.J. Catanzaro. GPF Babbitt’s Kawasaki rider and AMA Arenacross Series rookie swept both nights of action, leading every lap of both 18-lap main events along the way. As a result, he holds a one-race advantage of 25 points over Reynard Mods Kawasaki’s Cory Green with just four races to go. Over the last couple rounds, Catanzaro has come into his own, effectively dominating the class with a three-race winning streak. Furthermore, his worst result in the Western Regional Championship is third with a podium finish in every round.
This weekend’s round from Council Bluffs is the AMA Arenacross Series second visit to Iowa, but is the only round of the regular season in the state, along with the annual prequel from Des Moines in November.
